The proper settings for monitors for photo editing can vary depending on the type of monitor, the color space you are working in, and your personal preferences. However, here are some general guidelines for setting up your monitor for photo editing on both Mac and PC:

For Mac:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Displays.
  2. Select the Color tab.
  3. Choose the "Adobe RGB (1998)" color profile or another profile that is suitable for your workflow and monitor.
  4. Adjust the brightness and contrast settings to your liking. Aim for a brightness of around 120-140 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of around 500:1.

For PC:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the "Advanced display settings" and click on "Display adapter properties".
  3. Select the "Color Management" tab.
  4. Choose the "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" color profile or another profile that is suitable for your workflow and monitor.
  5. Adjust the brightness and contrast settings to your liking. Aim for a brightness of around 120-140 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of around 500:1.

It's important to note that these are general guidelines and that the specific settings you use will depend on your monitor and personal preferences. Additionally, if you are working with a specific color space, such as Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB, you may need to use a different color profile to ensure accurate color representation.
